Approved teachers, you can now retrain to become a school counsellor in a NSW public school with a School Counsellor Sponsorship Program – Psychology.
The School Counsellor Sponsorship Program – Psychology is for teachers who have completed a minimum of two first year units of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited sequence of psychology study, with credit, within the last 10 years.
Despite recently announced changes regarding the psychology registration pathway, from the “4+2 internship” to the “5+1 internship” model, the department remains committed to supporting teachers to retrain as school counsellors. The department will continue to work with universities to develop suitable pathways.
Under the School Counsellor Sponsorship Program – Psychology, teachers are supported to complete an APAC accredited three year undergraduate psychology sequence, over one or two years. Successful applicants would continue to be supported to complete an APAC accredited fourth year and train as a school counsellor.
