Graduate Recruitment Program

The Graduate Recruitment Program (GRP) aims to identify high-quality teacher education graduates for casual, temporary and permanent employment in NSW public schools.

Under this program, students completing their initial teacher education training and whose academic results, professional experience reports and interview responses are of a high standard may be offered a permanent teaching appointment for the following school year to high schools, central schools, and primary schools across the State.

Graduates who are trained in an area of identified staffing need or who are prepared to teach anywhere in the State increase their chances of employment under the Graduate Recruitment Program.

An initiative to improve outcomes for Aboriginal students offers further opportunities for permanent employment to graduates who are interested in teaching in NSW public schools with significant Aboriginal student enrolments.

All final year teacher education students from universities in NSW, the ACT and La Trobe University, Wodonga Campus, are eligible to apply for employment under the Graduate Recruitment Program. Aboriginal teaching graduates are encouraged to apply through this program.

Each year teach.NSW presents an information session in each university during which final year students are provided with an information package and invited to apply for employment in NSW public schools. Final year education students should attend a teach.NSW information session prior to applying.

All applications under the GRP must be made online.

Distance education students and other students who are unable to attend an information session can obtain all relevant information through this site.

Interviews for final year teacher education students are conducted at various locations across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Interviews are conducted by experienced teachers.

Graduates are assessed in the areas of professional knowledge, professional practice and professional commitment. This includes consideration of graduates’ teaching expertise, curriculum requirements and classroom management skills.

Offers of permanent employment to graduate teachers commence in September 2009. Eligible final year students may be issued with a casual teaching approval during 2009.
